Review of techniques for biohydrogen production from palm oil mill effluent

Due to rapid growth in population and societal development, the demand for energy is on increase. The production of palm oil as one major edible oils consumed world has increased tremendously. Palm mill effluent (POME), a wastewater from most significant agricultural industry produced tremendous amounts that requires proper management mitigate its negative environmental effects. Studies have shown (POME) possesses properties good carbon feedstock hydrogen generation fermentation processes. In this study, several methods biohydrogen were discussed. An apprehension into different pre-treatment POME including physicochemical, chemical biological their effects characteristics pH, temperature, sugar content, solid viscosity, nutrients by-product toxicity quality reviewed. Various bioreactor designs used POME, modifications applied system design increase stability productivity treatment been examined. individual interactive temperatures heat treatment, inoculum sizes substrate concentrations Moreover, higher could be obtained with addition nanoparticle introducing genetically modified H2-producing bacteria.
